September 2015 - Auf Wiedersehen Deutschland......

After 4 wonderful years living in Germany, we are moving on!  Panama - next stop!!!

We will truly miss our absolutely wonderful apartment at Vierzigmannstr, 20 in the great city of Erlangen, the country of Germany and the continent of Europe.  If we could stay without a job, we would, but we can't.  So on to the next adventure in our lives.

In the past week we have made sure that we spent time with old friends and visited our old haunts in Erlangen.  Here are a few photos......

August 2015 - Train And Bike To Veitshöchheim

Veitshöchheim you ask?  Why?  Upon Tim's departure from adidas, his colleagues gave him a couple of gifts.  One was a beautiful German stein....

The other was a gift certificate for a dinner for two, at any one of the advertised restaurants in Germany.  Here was our criteria:

- restaurant must have a hotel (we wanted to stay the night)
- within two hour train ride from Erlangen
- the area had to be bikeable
- there had to be something to 'see'

Veitshöchheim fit the bill.  The restaurant we chose was Spundloch - das Hotel und Weinrestaurant and it had a gasthaus. It is located 10 km north of Würzburg (wine country), which is 1.5 hr train ride from home.  Also, is it located along the Main River which has bike trails beside it and has a gorgeous palace in the town.  What more could you ask for.

August 2015 - Budapest and Vienna By Train

May 2015 - Regensburg And The Sausage Summit

We woke up one morning and decided to go to Regensburg.  We packed a knapsack with a few important items, in case we decided to stay the night.

We hopped on a train - 1 change in Nürnberg, 2 hours and €28,00

May 2015 - Tim Does Palma de Mallorca

While I was in Ontario, Tim was working, but he had a long weekend to kill so he decided to go cycling in Mallorca.  He packed up his helmet, biking shoes and pedals and went for 4 nights!

He rented a bike and rode east, west and southwest of Palma.

Passeig del Born
"Ummmm, which one shall I surprise Jayne with????"
Upon his return, he definitely confirmed that Palma / Mallorca is a good contender for our retirement home.

Hasta luego Mallorca.

May 2015 - Memorial For Mum And Visiting Friends In Barrie, ON

Sue, Delaney, Kendall and Dale fly in from Calgary and I flew in from Erlangen, Germany.  We had a couple of days together in Barrie.

The girls met up with some of the Showers family at Casa Mia and Sue, Dale and I went to Shirley's Bayside Grille for a beer and pizza.

On the Saturday before the memorial we all travelled up to T-Lake to the Robbins' cottage to spread Mum's ashes in the lake.  She was joining Dad.

After, we had a great lunch with Chris and John Robbins and chatted about old times.

On the Sunday (3rd May) Sue and I planned a Celebration of Life for Mum at her old church - Burton Avenue United Church.  Many friends showed up for coffee, cake and conversation.  It was wonderful to see everyone again.  It had been along time since I had seen many of Mum's friends.

Memory Boards
I took advantage of being in Ontario, to visit friends.  Here is what I squeezed into 5 days.....

I visited with three of my Ontario Hydro friends, one of whom I hadn't seen for at least 30 years.  We had a great time, just like it was yesterday when we were all working in the Records Center on the 18th Floor of 700 University Avenue, Toronto.

Before - approximately 1986(?)

After.....

Appies with Ellanna McKendry-Whitaker, Jennifer Smith and Jill Mosher and then a drive up to Barrie to see Ellanna's Mum and then drinks and dinner at Donaleigh's Irish Public House with Pat Borho, Karen Byles, Frank McKendry, Jim Borho and met up with Johnny Byles and his girlfriend .........

A drive to Everett to have a quick visit with Jed Geddes and his wife Karen.  I hadn't seen Jed for about 25 years.  We had a nice chat, reminiscing about old times and a bit about Dave Geddes, who had passed away a year prior.

Darlene Price!!!  Darlene and I drove up to Clarksburg to visit Sue Tupy at her gallery Matilda Swanson.

I hadn't seen Suzy since my wedding!

A girl's night out with the gang from high school at The Farmhouse in Barrie.

Quick stop at The Elmvale Bakery for jelly doughnuts and to Pieces of Olde to order some buttertarts, from Jill, for Tim.

Lunch with the Tabers.

A couple of evenings with the Derbyshire's.  One of them at the Gryphon Theatre to see the Stars Come Out.

Dale and Hoover!!!
An evening with the Brown's in Creemore
